Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up within New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. She joined the CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. She joined NBC News Washington two years later as a general reporter. 1981 she started covering the White House, and in 1988 she was appointed the Chief Correspondent to Congress. She was appointed the chief White House correspondent by NBC News in the year 1992. Mitchell has been a panelist and host of the TV show Meet the Press. She served as a panelist in the presidential debates in 1988 in the debate between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded numerous honors in journalism, among them an award called the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award by Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell was the very first reporter to report on White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan as president from 1981-1988. She covered many notable stories such as arm control, budget taxes as well as the Iran Contra scandal. She also traveled to many summits with the help of the President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
